Oct 2011 - An insight into the Voyager Training Team

news-training-room-photoDebbie Herring, Application Trainer at Voyager, survives an exciting first 12 months!

Since I have joined Voyager much has changed.  I have been getting to know the diverse range of customers and have been able to fully utilise my ten years recruitment experience offering both training on the software and when required, additional consultancy support, trouble shooting and bespoke training to assist customers in incorporating their current processes to work in line with Voyager’s best practise.  Voyager takes its training very seriously and to add to my previous qualifications of IT NVQ assessor, REC qualifications and Professional Training Certificate, Voyager has assisted me in becoming a SAIIT member with the Institute of IT Training.

As you will be aware we relocated to Chineham in December 2010 and the new purpose built training facility (pictured) is now in full use, giving our customers a variety of great training options including Open training, individual online training, or training at the customers’ site, not forgetting the free online clinics which are available twice a month.  We have also seen a rising trend in bespoke training with customers purchasing one or two hours of a trainers’ time and then setting their own agenda for the subjects they would like trained during the online session.

During my year here, I have seen many of our customers shift their advertising methods to online recruiting over more traditional methods.  Online advertising and job boards allow agencies to pin point desired candidates with digital advertising allowing instant job posting and faster response times, so it is no wonder that agencies are following this route.  This also gives the benefit of a virtually paper free office with no hard copy CV’s being passed around the office!  With the recession finally taking a hold last year and opportunities reducing, candidates are also turning to social networking sites and job board to raise their profile.  However in 2010 social media sites still only provided 5% of applications compared with 1/3 of all applications generated by internet job boards, personal contacts and referral schemes.

With this is mind we are now training our customers to add candidate’s linked in details into the Candidate URL box in the candidate page on Voyager, allowing consultants to have a hyperlink directly to their candidates linked in profile.  We are also offering instant posting from the Voyager vacancy page to Logic Melon and Clients website’s on the Voyager 3.1 Upgrade, in addition to Broadbean and Idibu options which have been available for a while.

I have also had the opportunity to meet many of our existing customers as there has recently been a sharp increase in customers requesting refresher training. Statistically people attending training courses only remember 40% of everything they are trained, this results in a sort of training by osmoses effect as these consultants then return to their branch and train other consultants who also only remember 40% of the functionality.  The refresher training has been highly successful and our customers have been shocked at just how much had been forgotten.  If you would like to find out whether a refresher course would be right for your staff, please feel free to call the training team and we can email you a training needs analysis and then discuss with you our training recommendations.
